Matthew Lucas, also known as Peekaboo, is a producer who’s found his niche in making horror-inspired bass music. The 21-year-old from Kalamazoo, Michigan isn’t new to the scene, but this summer has been especially kind to him. Not once, but twice a crowd at Electric Forest got to hear a Peekaboo production play out.
His track ‘Revenge’ was played when Minnesota, Ekali and Team EZY shared the Tripolee stage second weekend. The weekend prior, Bassnectar blasted ‘Wobbly’ to thousands of bass heads who have continued to show love towards the track.
This isn’t the first time his songs have been played by a prominent artist either. Last December, RL Grime played his song ‘Aftermath’ while going B2B with Baauer at Decadence in Denver and during his set at Lights All Night in Dallas.
With that kind of support, it’s no surprise Bassnectar’s manager reached out to Matthew via email before Electric Forest. The two talked back and fourth about Matthew’s music until Lorin (Bassnectar) was added to the conversation. Matthew couldn’t believe it.
“[Lorin] sent this entire email saying that he’s been trying to talk to me for a while and he had like 10 GB of promos or something sent to him that my song was on. I don’t know who sent it.”
Matthew was convinced ‘Wobbly’ wouldn’t be as popular as the other three songs on his EP. Before Bassnectar’s first weekend set, the song had just over 2,000 plays. It has since surpassed 15,000 plays and counting on Soundcloud.
“When I made that song, I was just dicking around with something that day. Apparently that was the one that stuck out to Lorin.”
